Demos 3.0 is a free, secure, mission-driven, trusted, and community-supported nonprofit social network that aims to redefine social networking while safeguarding community organizing initiatives and combatting external interference. It offers state-of-the-art biometric verification, user privacy protection, and a platform for community organizing.
Demos 3.0 was established in 2023 by a dedicated group of visionary Silicon Valley leaders and global innovators who were deeply affected by and concerned with the repercussions of astroturfing and external interference in the current social networks that are undermining democratic processes.
The initiative was particularly inspired by the events surrounding the Woman, Life, Freedom movement, and the public launch of the marketing campaign dedicated to the development of this platform is a tribute to the memory of Mahsa Amini.
Demos 3.0’s mission is to support a free, secure social network platform that can foster democratic processes and community organizing.
Demos 3.0 combines cutting-edge biometric verification and other user privacy protection technologies to ensure that only real people can join the platform, eliminating bots and fake accounts. The platform will ensure that when users publish content, join organizations or vote for a topic, they are doing so as a real individual and they can only have a single account on the platform.
We have assembled a team of 40+ professionals in various fields and completed the designs for the user interface and architecture of the project. Until this point, the founder and the board have been investing their own funds in these achievements. Now, we are ready to start development. To progress further, we need financial support from communities and foundations. All funds raised will be used for development, as our volunteers are not paid.
We are considering a crowdsourcing campaign and seeking grants from foundations. Eventually, the platform will sustain itself by receiving a percentage of revenue from third-party developers. Any for-profit applications developed by these developers will contribute 20% of their revenue to the foundation. This is crucial for community development and impactful application creation.
The main applications (taskforce, media channels, user verification, scoring system, messaging and few more) will be provided for free to all users by Demos 3.0. However, for additional applications like fundraising, elections, surveys, etc., developers who integrate their apps into our system may choose to make them paid. In that case, they will contribute 20% of their application revenue to the foundation. This contribution supports the growth, prosperity, and empowerment of the community.
Developers actively support the growth and prosperity of the community by voluntarily making this contribution. No advertisements or ad platforms are allowed in Demos 3.0. Eventually, Demos 3.0 may fund some of these developers to make their offerings free. By voluntarily making this contribution, developers actively support the growth and prosperity of the community, empowering others and driving collective progress.
Demos 3.0 is a community driven platform and all individuals involved are volunteering their time. The design is a collaboration between a lot of people with extensive experience building technology platforms and companies. We welcome anyone who is interested in contributing to the design, review or implementation of the platform. The current architecture uses advanced biometric verification techniques, including facial recognition, zero knowledge proof blockchain, Homomorphic encryption, and NFT technology. The goal is to verify that the person registering is a unique individual never seen before and to give them an anonymous identity. No personal information is kept or shared with the platform. The goal is to have each person have a unique identity but a private identity. You get to participate, join and vote on issues but you do not have to share any private information about yourself to the larger community unless you want to as part of an organized grass root group.
As a Demos 3.0 user, you can join various community organizing initiatives and task forces. You have the opportunity to vote individually on issues, score other activities and collaborators and tasks and help determine the next steps for each task force. Your engagement is crucial to shaping the direction of the platform.
Yes, users can vote on all issues, even when they can’t participate directly. Proxy voting is enabled, allowing users to delegate their votes to others if needed. Users can also reclaim their votes if their proxy fails to represent their interests.
Certainly! The following are a few examples. There is no restriction or limit on what type of organizational activity you can start on Demos 3.0.
Book collection for Low income schools: Jill envisions starting a book club for her neighborhood where old books are donated for free to the local public school. Through Demos 3.0, she can easily connect with like-minded members and volunteers who are enthusiastic about supporting her initiative. By utilizing collaborative decision-making, Jill and the community collectively define roles and tasks and continuously refine them based on the votes by all participants. Her initiative gets picked up by other local towns and she can expand her community knowing that each person joining or voting represents a real individual on Demos 3.0. The built in platform capability to allow people to vote for decisions and the transparency on how decisions are made builds confidence in the community that the initiative is driven by the community and is helping the local schools.
Voting on Ballot Initiatives: Jennifer faces uncertainty when deciding on the latest ballot initiative for funding a new school in her town. With Demos 3.0, she initiates a discussion to engage in meaningful dialogue with fellow citizens who have thoroughly researched and studied the proposal. This platform provides a secure environment, free from interference by bots or fake accounts, promoting genuine interactions. Together, they can organize activities like ballot campaigns, demonstrations, or engage with local policymakers and community organizations to actively influence the outcome.
The fundraising campaign aims to support the development and launch of Demos 3.0, allowing it to combat astroturfing, protect user privacy, and foster authentic democratic engagement. We are launching our rollout campaign one year after the Iranian Women’s Movement to pay tribute to democratic, grassroots movements throughout history and keep the momentum going.
